Kathy Sievers Kathy Sievers, Resident Instructor
The North Florida Iconography Institute

Resident Instructor Kathy Sievers offers participants the opportunity to create icons following what is often referred to as the "sacred geometry" of the icon. This approach allows participants to develop the skills to assess a model and reproduce it on the prepared panel to retain the proportions, regardless of the panel size. Kathy's dedication to teaching the fundamentals enriches participants' understanding and broadens their skills.

Artist's Statement

By age three, art had become my response to the world around me. I completed a B.A. in Art at Portland State University and then moved on to teaching and graphics. In 1985, I began attending the Mt. Angel Abbey's Artists Workshop, which later became the Mt. Angel Iconography Institute. I began teaching at the Institute in 1994. In 2009 I began teaching at the North Florida Iconography Institute. In iconography, my experience as a calligrapher and graphic designer combine with my love of color and painting and my interest in liturgy, theology and spirituality. I work as a traditional Byzantine iconographer. As an iconographer, I am called to assist in revealing the mystery of God made human through painting, teaching and prayer. As a member of the Church, I am called to put my skills at the service of the people of God, and to welcome each person to the mystery of Christ.
